Yes our Wedding Hall is in Essex, located approximately an hour drive from Newmarket and is easily reached via major roads and under half an hour away from Stanstead Airport, for your far flung guests. We often host Newmarket couples and can help plan guest travel or coach hire if needed. 

We found an old pub, nestled in the heart of Rural Essex, immediately realised the potential of our idyllic surroundings and decided we had to share it with prospective couples. 

Our approach to planning weddings is a rare outlier compared to the rest of the weddings industry; we try to use as few pre-organised packages as possible. This is your wedding so you are in control and we will accommodate as much as possible. If have specific suppliers in mind, be it florists, DJ’s or decorators, they are more than welcome, we will use it as an opportunity to expand our contacts for happy couples of the future.

If you want to book over the summer we do get busy over peak summer Saturdays. Booking early secures the best dates for you and ensures you have ample time for planning, suppliers, and venue meetings. However, the best thing to do to check with us is to contact us.

Of course! We can offer in-person tours with our in-house wedding planners so that any questions you have can be answered there and then. If you can’t get away from work or have a longer journey, we also offer an online tour and floor plans so that you can still see our wedding hall, and any questions you have can be answered over email or online meeting, whatever works for you. Yes. We maintain a vetted list of trusted Essex-based suppliers, including photographers, florists, caterers, BnB’s and DJs. These suppliers know our venue and local requirements, ensuring a smooth, well-coordinated wedding day.

Absolutely. Our venue is fully licensed for civil ceremonies, allowing couples to host both the ceremony and reception on-site. In addition – when you book The Compasses, it’s yours exclusively.  No overlapping events, just you, your loved ones, and your celebration.

Yes. Compasses Weddings can offer a wide selection of hotels, B&Bs, boutique inns, and countryside lodges. We provide couples with a curated list of recommended local accommodations to ensure guests have convenient, affordable and comfortable options.

Yes, Compasses Weddings has its own carpark, and with a guest limit of 120 people, there is plenty of parking available.
